They went to (Old Fort) Jackson

Twitter is a wonderful thing. I saw a local tweet about a camp out at Old Fort Jackson in Savannah. I immediately pointed it out to JB, because I knew that would be right up his alley. My son’s too! We tried to talk him into getting back into Boy Scouts after we moved, but he didn’t want to do it this year…so it had been quite some time since they had done anything camping related.

(Re: the title of the post…we kept laughing and remembering nights at the karaoke bar our friends liked to frequent. One of our couple friends *always* sang I’m Going to Jackson.)

So, last Friday afternoon, JB left work a little early, got their stuff packed up, and they went to Old Fort Jackson. Dival and I had planned to have a just the girls kind of night, but I was so tired I dozed off on her twice, and we finally went to bed at 9:30 pm. (If you know me, you know that’s practically unheard of for me.)

Since I wasn’t there, I can’t really regale you with all the stuff I heard the next morning after they got home. They did tell me that it was very cold that night! They apparently could choose where to sleep, and Monkey chose to sleep in the old jail on bunk beds. They divided the kids up into different squadrons, made flags, and pretended to shoot the cannon. He came home with a drum, hat, and a cannon powder bag…and a lot of stories! They had fun, and that’s all that really matters.

Here are a few of the pictures they took. (They are all posted to my Facebook account, but since the majority of them had other children in them, I’m not posting them here.)
